When choosing research topics for my research assessments during the first semester of school, I had taken an interest in innovations with in the pediatric cardiothoracic field. I chose to research postoperative recovery in hopes to find an innovation within pediatric cardiac critical care for my original work; however, I found that postoperative recovery was very standardized. With all my research I was waiting for something to spark an idea in my mind, and something did exactly that. As part of my research I wanted to truly see what a patient was undergoing during cardiac critical care, and I found that many families chose to share their stories through youtube and that the comment section had become a method of support with in this families. I decided that there was a need for a proper outlet for a support community for families with children undergoing or who have undergone pediatric cardiothoracic surgery, and that is when I created the Their Heart Project.
